initConnection() starts the server, using the Ethernet check already present in
the connection flow. Locate this path in handleConnection and ensure
Ethernet-only boots cannot serve the welcome page during the first server start.

Clear showWelcomePage before the first server start.
On an Ethernet-only boot, showWelcomePage can be set to true after Ethernet initialization. The first handleConnection() call then starts the AP server through initConnection() and returns before the Ethernet check at line 1050. A request to / during this interval can receive the welcome page. Clear the flag in the initial connection path.
Suggested fix
selectedWiFi = findWiFi(); // find strongest WiFi
+ if (WLEDNetwork.isEthernet()) showWelcomePage = false;

Clear showWelcomePage in the initial connection path before initConnection()
starts the server, using the Ethernet check already present in the connection
flow. Locate this path in handleConnection and ensure Ethernet-only boots cannot
serve the welcome page during the first server start.

why do you not have a backup and need a workaround? i.e. what is the scenario you try to fix here?
can you explain why this is an issue? |
|
The Problem is that the welcome page will be shown although we are connected via ETH. Lines 507 to 518 in 55bcf1f showWelcomePage to false. The Issue is that the ARDUINO_EVENT_ETH_CONNECTED evenet will be fired before the eventlistener is active.
The second issue is that the main UI and welcome page shares the same E-Tag which means if we had the welcome page before and then tries to open the normal ui the esp just send an 304 (not modified) and the browser will show the welcome page. In our case we flash our WLED LAN controller, then upload a config and after that we still see the welcome page instead of the normal ui. |
|
so am I correct:
|
|
Yes you're right, if the backup file was created the welcome page will not be displayed (after a reboot). About the E-Tag i'm not to 100% sure, maybe it's just an edge case with only uploading a config. Our workaround right now is to open the settings an save the uploaded config again to generate the backup file. |
|
why dont you just upload config and backup at once? |

This is a quite strange case syntax. Normally you don't need the braces.

I was not sure which syntax i should use, so i just followed the syntax from some lines above:

Sure we also could upload and backup it, but that is more an workaround as an fix. |

Short video which shows the issue with the welcome page, after uploading a config (default config, just changed the ETH option to ESP32-POE): lan-welcome-page-demo.mp4Short video about the E-Tag issue (Saving Config -> creates backup -> still welcome page -> reboot esp32 -> still welcome page -> normal reload -> welcome page -> hard reload (ignore old E-Tag) -> main ui): Bildschirmaufnahme.2026-10-15.um.13.33.36.mp4 |
On devices that are connected via Ethernet only (no WiFi configured), the welcome page keeps being shown on
/instead of the main UI.There are two different reasons:
showWelcomePageis set totrueinsetup()when the default SSID is still configured and no config backup exists. For Ethernet it is only cleared in theARDUINO_EVENT_ETH_CONNECTEDhandler, which is maybe triggered before the event listener is registered./serves the main ui and the welcome page on the same path and both are using the the same ETag.Summary by CodeRabbit
