ACE_Controller_Helper

Smoother controller steering for Assetto Corsa EVO.

ACE_Controller_Helper reads your physical controller, smooths only the left stick steering axis, and outputs a virtual Xbox 360 controller. It is meant for players who do not have a wheel, or who prefer using a controller.

Tested with Assetto Corsa EVO early access 0.6.1.

Requirements

• Windows
• Python 3.12 or newer
• ViGEmBus: https://github.com/nefarius/ViGEmBus/releases
• Optional HidHide: https://github.com/nefarius/HidHide/releases

Python packages are installed automatically by the script if missing.

Install

Clone or download this repository.

git clone https://github.com/YOUR-USERNAME/ACE_Controller_Helper.git
cd ACE_Controller_Helper

Install ViGEmBus, then reboot if asked.

Run

Open the folder in VS Code, open ace_controller_helper.py, and run the file.

Or run from a terminal:

python ace_controller_helper.py

If Python is installed at C:\Python312:

C:\Python312\python.exe ace_controller_helper.py

Game Settings

In Assetto Corsa EVO, controller input should be flat/linear.

Disable in-game steering curves, filtering, gamma, speed sensitivity, and smoothing. ACE_Controller_Helper should be the only place shaping the steering input.

HidHide

If the game sees both your real controller and the virtual Xbox 360 controller, use HidHide to hide the real controller from the game.

Allow Python or ACE_Controller_Helper in HidHide, hide the physical controller, and leave the virtual Xbox 360 controller visible.

Tuning

Edit these values in ace_controller_helper.py:

TICK_RATE = 100.0
STEERING_FILTER = 50.0
STEERING_GAMMA = 2.0
DEADZONE = 0.0

TICK_RATE controls the virtual controller update rate. It does not change steering smoothing feel.

Higher STEERING_FILTER means smoother but slower steering.

Higher STEERING_GAMMA means more precision around center.

DEADZONE helps if the stick does not rest perfectly at center.
