docs: note that Claude Code MCP sign-in fails on local setups - #969
Recent Claude Code releases connect to MCP servers through a newer client that sends an OAuth token request only to a token endpoint served over HTTPS or at localhost, 127.0.0.1 or ::1. The k3d setup serves ThunderID over plain HTTP at thunder.openchoreo.localhost, so the browser-based sign-in in the MCP guide succeeds, but the token exchange is refused and /mcp shows Refusing to send credentials to non-https token endpoint.
Approach
Add a warning to the Claude Code tab of the browser-based setup in docs/ai/mcp-servers.mdx and the v1.3.x, v1.2.x and v1.1.x copies. v1.0.x is end of life, so it is left as is.
Document MCP_SDK_GENERATION=v1 as the workaround for local setups, along with its caveats: it applies to every MCP server in that session and skips the issuer check, so it should only be used for local OpenChoreo work.
Point to the client credentials method for anyone who wants to keep the newer client, since Claude Code does not make the token request itself there.
This is a stopgap for the time being. The MCP TypeScript SDK already treats *.localhost names as loopback for this check since 2.2.0 [1], but Claude Code does not pick that up yet. We can drop the warning once it does.
Claude Code's newer MCP client sends OAuth token requests only to HTTPS
endpoints or to localhost, 127.0.0.1 and ::1, so sign-in fails against
ThunderID at http://thunder.openchoreo.localhost on k3d. Document the
MCP_SDK_GENERATION=v1 workaround and its caveats in the current, v1.3.x,
v1.2.x and v1.1.x guides.

📝 Summary
Summary by CodeRabbit
Documentation
Updated the browser-authentication guide to explain sign-in failures when token endpoints use plain HTTP on non-loopback hosts.
Documented a launch option for local setups that applies across MCP servers in the session and skips an OAuth issuer check; the guide recommends limiting its use to local OpenChoreo sessions.
Added Client Credentials as an alternative and clarified that HTTPS installations are unaffected.
The MCP server guide now documents Claude Code’s sign-in behavior for non-loopback plain-HTTP token endpoints. It includes a session-scoped workaround, its OAuth issuer-check limitation, and Client Credentials as an alternative.

Summary
Document HTTP sign-in behavior and workarounds docs/ai/mcp-servers.mdx
The guide describes Claude Code’s restriction on non-loopback plain-HTTP token endpoints. It gives a session-scoped workaround, notes that it skips the OAuth issuer check, and lists Client Credentials as an alternative.
The warning clarifies local sign-in limitations and workaround tradeoffs. No merge-blocking issue is established by the supplied changes.
