WalkthroughThe workflow adds comments about its linting purpose and badge-compatible name. Its linter step now runs the action from the checked-out repository instead of the remote action. ChangesC++ linter workflow

./is valid, but zizmor’sself-repositoryaudit flags workspace-relative action references. Use$/so GitHub resolves the root action from the workflow repository at the running commit. Keep the checkout because the linter still needs the workspace contents.Proposed fix

I think the badge in the README used to point to this workflow, but it seems that changed to the self-test CI at some point.

I remember now, probably deleted some badges when I was revising the README. |

📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winKeep demo linting on non-main pushes.
The deleted workflow ran for every
pushthat changeddocs/examples/demo/*.self-test.ymlnow triggers only onmain, so equivalent changes pushed to another repository branch receive no lint check. Pull requests remain scoped tomainbyCONTRIBUTING.md; this gap concerns pushes.Suggested fix
on: push: - branches: [main] paths: - 'action.yml' - '.python-version' - 'uv.lock' - 'docs/examples/demo/**' - '.github/workflows/self-test.yml'This runs the existing self-test matrix for matching non-main pushes, which restores coverage but increases CI usage.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Make lint failures fail this workflow.
When steps.linter.outputs.checks-failed != 0, the workflow only prints a message. Line [28] also allows the linter step to continue, and Line [43] leaves exit 1 commented out. The workflow therefore succeeds when lint checks fail, so the retained status badge can report success for a failed lint run. Enable run: exit 1 in this branch.

That's what self-test CI does.

@2bndy5 You're right. self-test.yml provides the CI enforcement. This workflow serves as a demo and preserves existing badge URLs, so it does not need to duplicate that enforcement. I withdraw this finding.

That's right. The reason I didn't write it that way is mainly because I treated it as an example for user reference when they click the badge to jump into the GitHub workflow. That's why I used the commit hash followed by the version number.

Why
The README used to have an "Add C/C++ Linter Action badge in README" section, dropped in the README rework (#493). It told users to copy a badge whose image is the status of this repository's
cpp-linter.ymlworkflow:https://github.com/cpp-linter/cpp-linter-action/actions/workflows/cpp-linter.yml/badge.svgSo that workflow has to stay: deleting or renaming it would break the badge in every README that still has it. But it ran
uses: cpp-linter/cpp-linter-action@main, which is neither what users run (a release) nor a test of the PR's code (self-test.ymlalready does that with./).A badge in users' READMEs is still worth having, since each one links back to the project, so this brings the section back with a badge that does not depend on any workflow.
What changed
README.md: new "Add a badge" section before "Used by":C/C++ lint | cpp-linter, in the org colors, linking to this repository;cpp-linter.ymlworkflow from Quick start, withOWNER/REPOto replace..github/workflows/cpp-linter.yml:@main→@8120e05c… # v2.23.1, the latest release pinned by commit, the way users are advised to pin actions. Dependabot's github-actions updates keep it on the newest release.
