Feature Requests: Keyboard Mapping, High Refresh Rate, Advanced Networking & Donation Option #18
Description
First off, the performance is fantastic. I honestly can’t believe how affordable VMPal is considering how well it performs.
I just bought two licenses, and at this point I’ll definitely be recommending VMPal as an alternative to Parallels Desktop.
Also, please consider adding a donation / tip button somewhere on the website or in the app. For the price you're charging, I'd happily contribute a little extra to support development.
There are a few features that would make VMPal nearly perfect for my use case:
1. macOS → Windows Keyboard Mapping
It would be great to have an option to automatically translate common macOS keyboard shortcuts to their Windows equivalents.
For example:
macOS shortcut | Sent to Windows as -- | -- ⌘ + C | Ctrl + C ⌘ + V | Ctrl + V ⌘ + X | Ctrl + X ⌘ + Z | Ctrl + Z ⌘ + A | Ctrl + A ⌘ + S | Ctrl + S ⌘ + F | Ctrl + FIdeally, this could be:
Enabled/disabled per VM
Customizable for users who want their own mappings
Applied only while the VM has keyboard focus
Parallels Desktop handles this really well, and after getting used to using ⌘ everywhere on macOS, going back to Ctrl inside a Windows VM feels surprisingly awkward.
2. High Refresh Rate Support
I use VMPal on both a MacBook Pro and Mac Studio with high-refresh-rate displays, but the VM currently doesn't take advantage of the additional refresh rate.
It would be great to support refresh rates such as:
60 Hz
120 Hz
144 Hz
240 Hz
Even better would be dynamic / adaptive refresh rate support, where the VM/display pipeline can use the refresh rate supported by the host display.
This would make Windows feel considerably smoother, particularly for:
Scrolling
Animations
Mouse movement
Development tools
General desktop use
120 Hz support alone would already be a major improvement for MacBook Pro users with ProMotion displays.
3. Advanced Network Adapter Settings / Bridged Networking
More control over the VM's virtual network adapters would also be extremely useful.
In particular, I'd like to be able to choose between modes such as:
NAT / Shared networking
Bridged networking
Host-only networking
For bridged networking, it would be useful to select the specific host interface the VM should use, especially on Macs with multiple network adapters.
For example:
Wi-Fi
Built-in Ethernet
USB Ethernet adapter
Thunderbolt Ethernet
Other physical/network interfaces
My main use case is being able to place the VM directly on the same network as the selected physical adapter without going through an additional NAT layer.
This is particularly useful for IT/network administration, lab environments, device discovery, testing, and accessing equipment where Layer 2/network visibility matters.
Thanks again for building VMPal. The core performance is already extremely impressive, especially considering the price.
These three additions — macOS-style keyboard mapping, high-refresh-rate display support, and more advanced networking controls — would cover most of the remaining differences that matter to me compared with Parallels Desktop.

I am in complete agreement with @dp466 .. I also use Parallels daily and need the bridged networks due to some of the vpns for multiple clients have issues with the shared networking.. MacOS keyboard mapping is also high on my list of requested features but so far I find that vmpal uses less resources and over all just feels faster! but until the bridged networking is added I can't justify switching.

+1 for the advanced network adapter settings

Sorry for the late reply. There is a lot of work right now, so I had to finish that first before polishing these features. I need to make the GPU stable, fix the driver crashes, and ensure secure boot, keyboard, and mouse compatibility, etc.
The keyboard and network bridge will be added soon.

Add are added except the 120Hz on Windows. We're still waiting for the approval from Microsoft, one it done, we will push the update!
